The record

A percussion-heavy slice of mid-'60s Prestige exotica, led by conguero Montego Joe and stacked with a horn section, dual vocalists, and a young Milford Graves working timbales years before his free-jazz explorations. Afro-Latin grooves and soul-jazz horns mingle here, catching Graves in a rare straight-time setting just before he'd help redefine drumming altogether.
