The record
Thelonious Monk at the piano behind Miles Davis, Milt Jackson's vibes in the middle, Percy Heath and Kenny Clarke underneath -- nobody here is deferring. Prestige assembled it as a compilation on PR 7650 in 1969, Don Schlitten producing the reissue, and kept two takes each of 'Bags' Groove' and 'The Man I Love', which is where the record earns its keep.
