The record
Ray Barretto's congas inside an otherwise straight hard-bop quintet are what give Mack The Knife and Idaho their sway. Horace Parlan's piano leaves plenty of air, Blue Mitchell's trumpet shares the front line with Donaldson's alto, and Laymon Jackson and Dave Bailey hold the middle steady. An early 4000-series Blue Note, BLP 4025, mono, from 1960.
