The record

A tight Blue Note date pairing Mobley's burnished tenor with young Freddie Hubbard's brass, anchored by the Jones-Hayes rhythm team that powered so many label sessions of the era. Drew's writing gives the frontline plenty of room, a quietly assured hard-bop set from a pianist better known as a sideman.

The earliest pressing on file here is the 1961 US mono BLP 4059 -- deep groove, RVG stamp, 47 W 63rd address, Plastylite ear, laminated sleeve, and each of those carries money. A 1966 mono repress wears the same catalog number but a 63rd St address. For sound rather than provenance, take Classic Records' 1998 stereo BST 84059 or Music Matters' 2008 45 RPM MMBST-84059; Blue Note's 2014 BST 84059 is the honest cheap copy.
