The record
A brassy, unusual septet front line -- alto, baritone, and French horn stacked against Dorham's trumpet -- gives this Riverside date a chamber-like richness rare in hard bop. Cannonball Adderley guests alongside a young Cedar Walton, with Philly Joe Jones and Jimmy Cobb splitting drum duties across the session.

Pressings
Two 1959 Riverside issues head the list: the stereo RLP 1139, the earliest we list and the one carrying a deep groove, and the mono RLP 12-297. Riverside buyers usually chase the mono, so weigh the pair rather than following the earliest date. A 1960 stereo repress and a 1961 mono with deep groove and laminated sleeve follow, and OJC-134 from 1984 is the inexpensive way in.
