The record
A hard-bop sextet date led by the trombonist, with a young McCoy Tyner still a few months from Coltrane's quartet and Charles Davis's baritone thickening the front line alongside Walter Benton's tenor. Sam Jones and Art Taylor anchor the rhythm section with the kind of unfussy swing that made Jazz Workshop's roster so reliable.
