Paris, 1956: the pianist loosens his tie among local players, young Barney Wilen included, for a looser, more conversational blend than his quartet work allows. Kenny Clarke and Connie Kay split drum duties, giving these sides a shifting rhythmic footing rooted in transatlantic exchange.
