The record
Cut just before his Impulse! years, this modal blowout finds two basses churning under a title track built on flamenco-tinged vamps, with Hubbard's trumpet weaving through the reed lines. A transitional Atlantic date -- Coltrane stretching out long-form improvisation with the quintet-plus that pointed straight toward "A Love Supreme."

Mono 1373 and stereo SD 1373 both sit at 1961 on US Atlantic, the mono being the earliest row we hold, with a promo mono listed beside it. Abroad it went out through London -- LTZ-K 15239 in Australia and the UK, plus a British stereo SAH-K 6223 in 1962. US repressings run from 1966 through 1976, Presswell and Monarch among the plants. The modern cuts worth the money are ORG Music's 45 RPM mono ORGM 1086 and the Kevin Gray remasters on Rhino: RHF1 1373 stereo, RM1 1373 mono.
