The record
A late-'50s Roulette date pairing Newman's crisp, Basie-schooled trumpet with Zoot Sims' tenor, the two horns trading and sparring over Pettiford's propulsive bass work. Swinging, unfussy mainstream jazz from players who'd spent the decade proving how much could be said within a groove.
