The record
Carroll's bebop-schooled scat and easy swing get plush support here, with Ray Bryant's crew and a rotating bass chair that includes Milt Hinton and Oscar Pettiford lending real heft. A fine showcase for a singer better known as Gillespie's onstage foil, caught leading a date squarely in the mid-'50s vocal-jazz vein.
