The record
A greasy, funk-heavy live date that traded the organ trio's usual bebop lineage for a tight rhythm section built for the pocket -- Felder's bass and Humphrey's drums locking down grooves Beastie Boys would later sample wholesale. Smith's Hammond growls and sermonizes over the crowd noise, proof the B-3 could hang just as hard in the funk era as in hard bop's heyday.
