The record

The debut outing under The Crusaders name, cut when the Texas crew still traded under the Jazz Crusaders banner in spirit -- hard bop steeped in gospel and blues, with Gaines' guitar adding grit alongside Felder's tenor and Henderson's trombone. A confident first statement of the funky, ensemble-driven sound that would carry them through the decade.
