The record
Byrd's trumpet presses against Walter Davis Jr.'s percussive chords as the alto pushes into rawer, more searching phrasing, an early sign of modal ideas ahead. Chambers and La Roca hold the floor steady beneath it.

Pressings
The earliest pressing on file here is the 1959 US mono BLP 4013 on Blue Note, with deep groove, RVG stamp and the 47 W 63rd address; a 1959 stereo, 84013, carries the same three markers. Mono represses of BLP 4013 continue through 1963, and one 1960 copy shows the Plastylite ear. Liberty-era pressings take over in 1967. Analogue Productions cut AP-84013 at 45 RPM in 2010.
