The record

The third volume of the trio sides finds Hawes locked into the same telepathic groove with Mitchell and Thompson, his lines bright with bebop drive and blues undertow. Contemporary's West Coast studio sound frames a pianist at the peak of his early powers, unhurried and endlessly inventive.
