The record
Evans' first Impulse! date stretches his big band into wide-open, unhurried terrain -- "La Nevada" and "Where Flamingos Fly" breathe over long, patient arcs of color. Ron Carter and Elvin Jones anchor a band built for texture over swing, orchestral jazz at its most spacious.
