The record
A double-session date stacked with front-line talent -- Spaulding, Mobley, and Henderson trading turns alongside Hubbard's blazing horn, with Tyner and Mabern splitting piano duties. Recorded in the thick of his mid-'60s Blue Note run, it finds Hubbard pushing hard bop toward denser, more urgent ensemble writing.

The earliest pressing on file here is a 1967 US Blue Note mono, BLP 4196, with the stereo BST 84196 listed the same year -- one of those stereo copies carries both an RVG stamp and a Plastylite ear, the combination worth checking the runout for. Nothing earlier is on file. Blue Note kept repressing BST-84196 through 1977, and a 2015 European 180-gram remaster is catalogued simply as 84196.
