The record
Craft's reissue gathers Lockjaw's late-'50s Prestige "Cookbook" dates, a run built on Shirley Scott's greasy organ swells and Jerome Richardson's baritone punch beneath his own hard-blowing tenor. Soul-jazz at its most unbuttoned -- Davis and Scott trading phrases like a couple who finish each other's sentences.
Session personnel
