The record
A tight quartet session cut just after Daniels' Down Beat award-winning debut, with Hanna, Davis, and Lewis giving him a rhythm section as comfortable in swing as in post-bop turns. His clarinet work here hints at the crossover voice he'd later refine, but this is still very much a tenor date, sharp and Prestige-era straightforward.
Session personnel
- Richard Davis — bass
- Mel Lewis — drums
- Roland Hanna — piano
- Eddie Daniels — tenor saxophone, clarinet
