Jackie McLean's tart alto and Pepper Adams' growling baritone flank Byrd's bright trumpet on this sextet session, one of his earliest confident turns as Blue Note leader. Wynton Kelly's springy comping and the Jones-Taylor pulse keep the whole thing driving hard.
