The record

Vibraphonist turned marimba stylist Dave Pike leans into mid-'60s cocktail-jazz swagger here, backed by a crack Atlantic rhythm section with Herbie Hancock sliding onto organ and Clark Terry dropping in on trumpet. Breezy and groove-driven, it's a snapshot of jazz chasing the era's jet-age sophistication without losing its soul-jazz backbone.
