The record
A big-band detour for Cannonball, built around Galt MacDermot's title tune with Oliver Nelson's charts giving the horns their swagger. Barretto's congas push the groove toward Africa while Kelly and Jones keep the swing anchored back home.

The flagged earliest here is a 1961 US Riverside stereo, RS 9377, with a deep groove -- but the 1961 mono RLP 377 is the copy most buyers want, and it is listed in US, UK, French and European variants, including a white-label promo. A second US stereo, RLP 9377, muddies the numbering further. A 1968 Japanese gatefold pressing is the oddity here. OJC-258 from 1986 covers the modern reissue.
