The record

A quartet date built on sympathetic rhythm section work, with Kelly's light touch and the Jones-Brooks pairing giving Mitchell's warm, singing trumpet plenty of room to breathe. Recorded in 1960, it's a lyrical, unhurried session that shows why Mitchell was so prized as a soloist during his Blue Note years.

Pressings

Riverside issued this in both configurations in 1960: mono RLP 336, which is the earliest on file and shows a deep groove, and stereo RLP 9336. A 1963 RLP 336 mono drops the groove. Japan had a stereo SR-7004 in 1960. Serious later copies are the 1984 OJC-138 and the 2004 Analogue Productions 45 RPM AJAZ-9336; Craft Recordings issued CR00726 in 2024.
