The record
Cut for the small Revelation label in the fall of '66, this quartet date pairs Ortega's alto against two basses -- a lean, exploratory setup that lets the horn roam free over shifting harmonic ground. A West Coast-rooted altoist too little celebrated, working here in a more open, post-bop idiom than his earlier studio work suggested.
Session personnel
- Anthony Ortega — alto saxophone
- Bob West — bass
- Chuck Domanico — bass
- Bill Goodwin — drums
