The record
A nine-piece date scored with the same harmonic daring as Hill's trio work, its brass and reeds -- tuba, french horn, english horn among them -- opening onto orchestral colors rarely heard on Blue Note. Shelved for decades before its release, it stands as one of the era's most ambitious large-ensemble statements from the pianist-composer.
