The record
James Clay's flute and Victor Feldman's chords lend an odd coolness to this late-1960 date, floating over Sam Jones and Louis Hayes's easy pocket. Montgomery's octaves and single-line runs already sound like a guitarist at full stride.

Pressings
The earliest pressing on file here is the 1961 US Riverside stereo, RLP-9342, with the mono, RLP 342, issued the same year. A 1962 stereo repress carries the number as RS 9342 and shows a deep groove. The 1983 Original Jazz Classics reissue, OJC-089, is the honest budget copy and the easiest to find; a 1977 Japanese mono, SMJ-6199M, is the other one worth a look.
