The record
A tight hard-bop frontline of Byrd and McLean fires through Davis's own compositions, with the pianist's Monk-inflected touch anchoring the date. One of the few leader sessions Davis cut for Blue Note, it's a sharp snapshot of the label's late-'50s bench strength.
