The record
The Three Sounds trade leader duties for sideman work here, cushioning Turrentine's thick tenor with Gene Harris's easy piano. Cut for Blue Note in December 1960, it moves at an after-hours pace and never hurries a phrase.

Contemporary reception
With the 3 Sounds providing a solid rhythmic foundation (as well as vital solo work, especially by pianist Gene Harris), tenorman Turrentine moves soulfully through an earthy blues program of “Please Send Me Someone To Love,” “Blue Riff,” “Since I Fell For You” and others. A real “low-down” mood concert that dredges up the rawest of feelings. A full-bodied, adventuresome jazz date.
Pressings
The earliest copy on file is a 1961 US Blue Note mono, BLP 4057, carrying deep groove, an RVG stamp and a Plastylite ear. The same-year stereo, BST 84057, lists deep groove and the RVG stamp. A 1965 stereo still shows all three markers; by 1966 the deep groove has gone and only the stamp and ear remain. Music Matters reissued it in 2015 as a 180gm gatefold, MMBST-84057, and Blue Note's own 180 gram ST-84057 came in 2007.
