The record

Cut for Decca in the fall of 1941, this is Kenton at the very outset -- his working band still finding its shape before the wartime West Coast sound hardened into that brass-forward wall. A document of early ambition more than arrival, with Howard Rumsey and Bob Gioga already anchoring the rhythm and reeds.
