The record that put bossa nova into American ears, Getz's breathy tenor tracing Charlie Byrd's Brazilian guitar figures with an ease that made "Desafinado" a hit. A quietly historic session -- Verve's biggest gamble on a new rhythm paid off in gold.

Pressings
Mono V-8432 and stereo V6-8432 both date to 1962 on US Verve, both in gatefold sleeves. The plant is the variable worth checking: H.V. Waddell copies of either mix carry a deep groove, as does the MGM-pressed stereo, while the MGM mono is listed with a laminated sleeve. The UK had VLP 9013 in mono and SVLP 9013 in stereo. Verve kept V6-8432 running into 1972. For sound, the numbered DCC LPZ-2011 and Analogue Productions' 45 RPM 200 gram AP-8432 are the two to weigh.
