The record

Brazilian rhythms carry Desmond's alto through this mid-'60s RCA session, his phrasing as relaxed here as it ever was with Brubeck. Sun-bleached and easy, the kind of record built for a slow afternoon.

Contemporary reception

No period review located yet. The vintage-press pipeline searches DownBeat, Cash Box, and Billboard for this session.

Pressings

The earliest pressing on file here is the 1965 US mono, LPM-3320, with the stereo, LSP-3320, from the same year and turning up from the Indianapolis, Rockaway and Hollywood plants -- the plant is what separates those copies, since the number never changes. The UK split the two as RD-7701 and SF-7701. Japan starts with SHP-5445 in 1965; the 1976 limited edition, PG-26, is the other Japanese pressing on file.
