The record

Buddy Rich sits in with the working trio for a run through Basie, needling drum breaks and brisk unison lines standing in for the big band's roar. Ellis and Brown keep the pocket lean and blues-soaked rather than showy.

Pressings

The earliest copy we list is the 1956 US Clef mono, MG C-708; a Hollywood pressing of the same number sits alongside it. Europe had its own 1956 issues, Columbia 33CX 10039 in Britain and Barclay 3567 in France. Verve took the title over in 1957 as MGV-8092, then again in 1962 as V-8092. The 2025 Clef club edition puts MG C-708 back on 180 gram, numbered and limited.
