The record
Recorded in the flush of the Buena Vista Social Club's afterglow, this World Circuit date lets Portuondo's smoky alto lead a lush ensemble -- strings, horns, and a deep percussion bench anchored by Cachaíto López -- through Cuban song at its most intimate. A veteran voice of the Cuban filin tradition, finally given the global spotlight she'd long deserved.
