The record
A late-'60s snapshot of Japan's most disciplined big band, Sharps & Flats stacking five brass and reed voices deep under Nobuo Hara's own tenor lead. Tight section work and crisp charts show how thoroughly Japanese jazz had absorbed the Kenton-and-Basie big-band lineage by decade's end.
