A young Louis Hayes stepping out as leader, backed by fellow Cannonball Adderley bandmates Sam Jones and Nat Adderley plus Barry Harris and Yusef Lateef -- hard bop cut with the tight, swinging pulse of a working drummer's rhythm section. Vee Jay's jazz roster rarely sounded this loose and confident.
