The record

Blues-soaked trio work from a pianist who'd cut his teeth with Dinah Washington and Cannonball Adderley, here leaning hard into gospel-inflected swing with Cranshaw and Roker locked in tight behind him. Riverside caught him at his most unpretentious -- funky, direct, built for a room full of listeners nodding along.

Session personnel

  • Bob Cranshaw — bass
  • Mickey Roker — drums
