The record
Small-group grit replaces orchestral cushion here, Wild Bill Davis's organ swelling beneath that famous alto while Les Spann colors the edges with flute and guitar. Cut in summer '61, it catches the great melodist loose and unbossed outside Ellington's band.
Session personnel
- Sam Jones — bass
- Louis Hayes — drums
- Les Spann — guitar, flute
- Wild Bill Davis — organ
