The record

A tight, blowing-hard quartet session from the tenor man they called the fastest gun in the East, with Junior Mance's blues-rooted comping and Wilbur Ware's springy bass keeping pace with Griffin's sprinting lines. Cut in '56, it captures him just before the Blue Note run that made his name, already burning at full tilt.
