The record
Basie section-mates Freddie Green, Eddie Jones, and Marshall Royal join Newman here, but the real hook is that reed-heavy woodwind choir -- flutes, clarinets, oboe, bass clarinet -- cushioning his trumpet in unusually soft, close-voiced arrangements for a late-50s Roulette date.
