The record
Wes Montgomery's octaves and Barry Harris's crisp comping share the frame with Joe Gordon's trumpet on this 1960 date, the Jones-Hayes rhythm team keeping things loose. Land's Rollins-schooled tenor threads blues grit through the record's cool California poise.

Pressings
The earliest pressing on file here is the 1960 Jazzland JLP 20 in mono; the stereo counterpart, JLP 920S, is listed the same year with a deep groove. Jazzland went back to both numbers in 1966, so a JLP 20 or JLP 920S label on its own will not tell you the year. Japan's 1985 VIJ-4080 is the cleaner reissue, and a Spanish Jazz Workshop JW-027 appears in 2011 and again in 2020, remastered on 180 gram.
