The record
By the mid-'60s Davis was leaning further into rhythm and texture, with Barretto's congas and Spann's guitar thickening the pocket beneath his blunt, patient horn. RCA catches him easing past the tenor-battle format into something looser.
Session personnel
- Russell George — bass
- Ray Barretto — congas
- Chuck Lampkin — drums
- Les Spann — electric guitar
- Ross Tompkins — piano
- Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis — tenor saxophone
