The record
A blind Chicago organist barely documented on wax, backed by a lean guitar-flute-drums lineup that leans soulful rather than showy. Smash's brief flirtation with the Hammond groove circuit, cut in '62 when the organ combo sound was still finding its jazz-club footing.
