The record
A mid-'50s RCA Victor big-band date catching Gillespie between the bebop insurgency of the '40s and his later Latin-jazz ventures, all trumpet fire and sly orchestral wit. The lineup's lost to history, but the horn-driven verve of the era's dance-floor bebop comes through clean on wax.
