The record
Cut for ABC-Paramount with just piano, bass and drums behind him, Collette works through alto, clarinet, tenor and flute without ever crowding the small group. Dick Shreve's trio stays out of the way and lets the horn changes do the talking.
Session personnel
- Buddy Collette — alto saxophone, clarinet, flute, tenor saxophone
- John Goodman — bass
- Bill Dolney — drums
- Dick Shreve — piano
Contemporary reception
"CALM, COOL & COLLETTE" -- Buddy Collette And His Trio -- ABC-Paramount ABC-179 (1-12" LP) The many sided instrumental facets of Buddy Collette come in to play once more in this ABC-Paramount release featuring Collette and 3 other performers. Collette, mastering the tenor or alto plus the flute, joins his crew in 12 breezy, and sometimes frolicsome, arrangements on originals and evergreens ("They Can't Take That Away From Me," "Flute In 'D' "). Admirable jazz offering.
