The record

Late-'59 session capturing the Basso-Valdambrini working band fleshed out to octet size, a rare document of Italy's postwar jazz scene holding its own alongside touring Americans. Swedish baritone great Lars Gullin's presence adds a cool-toned counterweight to the two-alto front line, lending real international heft to this homegrown session.
