The record
Jack Sheldon's trumpet trades phrases with Pepper's sharp-edged alto over two days of sessions built on Ornette Coleman material rather than standards. Frank Butler drives from the kit, catching a restless band just before Pepper's long absence from recording.

Pressings
The earliest pressing on file here is the 1962 US mono M3602 on Contemporary. The stereo S7602 of the same year has deep groove black labels, and a 1965 repress moves to deep groove green labels -- that label colour is your dating tool. A UK mono, LAC 12316, also dates to 1962. Analogue Productions' numbered APJ 012 arrived in 1993, Original Jazz Classics' OJC-176 in 1984, and Craft's CR00706 in 2024.
